Multi-Device Sync
CatchTime supports syncing data across multiple devices. Whether you use CatchTime on your work computer, home computer, or phone, all your data stays consistent.
Enabling Cloud Sync
To use multi-device sync:
- Sign up and log in — Use the same account on every device
- Sync starts automatically — Cloud sync is enabled as soon as you log in
- Wait for initial sync — The first sync may take a few minutes depending on data volume
Once sync is enabled, the following data syncs across devices:
- Usage time records
- Tasks and categories
- App limit rules
- AI categorization settings
- Goals and goal records
- AI analysis reports
- App settings
Sync Frequency
CatchTime uses two methods to keep data up to date:
Periodic Sync
- Runs an incremental sync automatically every few minutes
- Uploads new and modified local data to the cloud
- Downloads new data uploaded by other devices
Real-time Push
- When you modify tasks, settings, or other important data on one device, other devices receive the update immediately
- Usage time records are high-volume and use periodic sync only, not real-time push
Conflict Resolution
When two devices modify the same record at the same time, CatchTime uses a "last write wins" strategy:
- The most recent modification takes precedence
- For a single-user multi-device scenario, simultaneous edits to the same record are rare
- This approach is simple, reliable, and covers the vast majority of use cases
Offline Usage
CatchTime follows an "offline first" design philosophy:
- Works without internet — All core features run locally, including time tracking, task management, and data viewing
- Data keeps recording offline — All usage records and actions are saved locally
- Auto-syncs when back online — When connectivity is restored, CatchTime automatically uploads data from the offline period
You don't need to worry about unstable connections. CatchTime handles sync in the background, ensuring no data is lost.
Sync Security
- All data transfers are encrypted
- Only you can access your data
- You can view logged-in devices and remotely log out anytime via Device Management
- See Device Management for more security features
